The First Notch by R.A. Salvatore

The First Notch: A Tale from The Legend of Drizzt - R. A. Salvatore

Audible freebie, read by Felicia Day. ~26 minutes.

For anyone who likes any of the Drizzt tales, you are probably already aware of this, but just in case: Audible had an all star cast read the Legend of Drizzt anthology of short stories, and released all 12 of them for free (as a pack, and also singly)

This was apparently Salvatores first short story, and it's rather good considering.

Young Bruenor Battlehammer takes a few of his cousins and heads out into some tunnels around Mithral Hall to take down an Ettin (a two-headed giant). However, that’s not the only danger in the dark tunnels.

Takes a little while to get started, but the ending is a cracker. And it's nice to see characters we know well, as youngsters, only just developing into the people we later came to know and love. Felicia Day (who I adore) does a fine job as narrator, despite a plethora of slightly dodgy accent choices for some of the characters.
