I sometimes write really long reviews. And sometimes I don't. I rate books fairly hard, something has to be pretty spectacular and a long time favourite to get a 5. But I'll try to explain why I rated what I rated.

I Hate This Book So Much: A Meditation

I just found this essay, by Lev Grossman, which I read a couple of years ago and it really resonated.

It's about the pressure we feel to like things because everyone else did, about liking a work and disliking the author and vice versa, and, well, I expect most of you will recognise yourselves in parts of this, I know I do.

And I just think it's nicely written, so I'm saving it.
